Kim, or Kimi, otherwise known as “KimDonesia” (Kim + Indonesia), a 17 year old Australian from Queensland, the Sunshine state, once lived in Lampung, southern Sumatra, for six months, accompanying her step-father who worked for a sugar company, Gula Putih Mataram (GPM).
While in Lampung she says she studied Islam, and was moved by the passionate devotion of the people there to the religion, and finally fell in love with it, particularly the sound of the call to prayer.
After moving back to Australia she converted to the faith, or reverted as she would have it. Here she explains, in rather good Indonesian, how she came to live in Indonesia in 2007:
In this video she explains her religious journey – from Wiccan moon worshipping, to nothing in particular, to Islam – she even has the pronunciation right, Islaaam, – and how living in Lampung and talking to the people there was one of the keys to her decision to throw her lot in with Allah.

Oh yes there is! Bantus have the smallest brains (Lowest IQ) and are the least accomplished people on the planet. Race and IQ are also linked. So that is why teens in Indonesia, Pakistan, or Nigeria didn’t become the men who brought us to space.
In other words, it appears that over the last half century, the global racial gaps in IQ did not converge. Indeed, they have grown.

Then you could start by addressing the points raised in this thread. Your own argument seems to be that ‘race exists because I think there are races’. Even when you pretend to be scientific you fail:
This is elementary knowledge. That is why there is race based diseases like tay sachs and sickle cell anemia.
These diseases are genetic – not race based. Sickle cell anaemia is found in many populations where malaria is prevalent because it does help in resistance to that disease. The trouble for you racists is that ‘black Africans’ are just as likely to have it as European ‘Mediterraneans’ like Italians and Spaniards.
If you think race and genetics are the same thing, try finding an evolutionary biologist who agrees with you. Why is genetic diversity the greatest in central Africa? You can have a test done that shows where your ancestors came from in that continent, if you like.
I’ll say it again – race is a social construct. And your particular view on the subject is entirely from within your own imagination.

I don’t think so, race is a scientific fact. They can distinguish a persons race through DNA testing. You’re playing semantics and sophistry, I’m not playing with you. I have linked countless studies by the experts here. It doesn’t matter there can be more genetic variation in populations that are close together. Why don’t you define “social construct?” Can you determine a persons religion or language through a DNA test? No, because they are social constructs. You lost the debate. Hail Victory!

Race doesn’t exist, the mantra went. The DNA inside people with different complexions and hair textures is 99.9 percent alike, so the notion of race had no meaning in science. At a National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) meeting five years ago, geneticists were all nodding in agreement. Then sociologist Troy Duster pulled a forensics paper out of his briefcase. It claimed that criminologists could find out whether a suspect was Caucasian, Afro-Caribbean or Asian Indian merely by analyzing three sections of DNA.
“It was chilling,” recalls Francis S. Collins, director of the institute. He had not been aware of DNA sequences that could identify race, and it shocked him that the information can be used to investigate crimes. “It stopped the conversation in its tracks.”
In large part thanks to Duster, Collins and other geneticists have begun grappling with forensic, epidemiological and pharmacogenomic data that raise the question of race at the DNA level. The NHGRI now routinely includes experts from the social disciplines to assist in guiding research priorities and framing the results for the public. “The complexities of the DNA sequence require not just simplistic statements about similarities between groups but a full appreciation of history, anthropology, social science and politics,” Collins has realized. “Duster is a person that rather regularly gets tapped on the shoulder and asked for help.”

No-one on here has suggested that populations with some genetic markers in common (such as the very broad groupings of communities that the sociologist Duster refers to) can’t be identified through DNA. However, the use of these areas on the human genome would only help find a few people in the ‘middle’ of a very large sample population. It’s not so much about ‘race’ but rather about “Oh, we can tell that this DNA comes from a population with features common to central Europe, so we can assume he/she is Caucasian”. No big advance in science or sociology there.
However I would take exception that this form of genetic analysis in any way defines ‘race’, and you would find very few scientists that would agree with you. Your selective ‘sources’ appear to be either superficial tabloid coverage or very dodgy neo-nazi websites.
In terms of genetics, you still haven’t responded to the questions about Tiger Woods’ ‘race’, or that of me and my children? And what about ‘boundary’ or ‘transitional’ populations with great genetic diversity? As we now live in a world with large population movements, exogamous marriage increasingly occurs, and the supposed DNA markers quoted above become more and more useless. What if someone possessed both ‘Caucasian’ and ‘Afro-Caribbean’ parts of the sequence? I would wager that the supposed ‘test’ of the three areas on the DNA sequence above wouldn’t work in practice in most parts of the world.
Maybe us so-called ‘mixed race’ people should go into the crime business? Then the police wouldn’t be able to identify people like me. Somehow I don’t think I could become a criminal mastermind on this basis.
See where your genetic identification argument breaks down? And even if it was possible to identify everybody from their DNA sequence, there is no link between that and the attributes you ascribe to each ‘race’ (brain size, intelligence etc). That, my friend, is pure racism.

You’re funny. You claim race is a social construct, meaning it doesn’t exist, but you proceed to call me a “racist!” I’ve always stated there are few exceptions when dealing with the race question, so that answers your mixed race question. Even then one of the links I posted was dealing with a criminal case that involved mixed race people, but the DNA results predicted correctly the racial makeup of the perp. The bell curve, the wealth of nations, the race based medicenes, all these scholarly works debunk ya. Hail Victory, Hail the Truth!

P.S. – BK – it’s a bit of a futile debate. Yes, it’s good to put the Anthonys of this world in their place. But he’s trying to revive a nasty, long-discredited idea and IMHO, we’re just giving him oxygen. It might’ve been important to take on these ideas in the 30s, 40s, hell, even 70s, in some places, but isn’t it only backward outposts like Singapore that take race seriously ?

To equate spelling errors etc as dumb (lack of intelligence?) is in itself dumb and usually racist. Reminds me of those who are all too common here, who look down on the people from the Kupungs as dull and backward due to their lack of literacy and thus expendable. There is huge difference between intelligence and the ability to express oneself in a unfamiliar environment. Of course, the FONC’s and others love pointing these flaws out in others as they have little else to show to be proud of.
As for Herr Tony, seriously curious to know what nation his race is laying claim? I would venture to suggest that invention and development has had more to do with political systems and economic opportunity than race.America would have to be still number one in science development (if not dang close) over the past 200 years and there is a nation of mongrels if ever there was one. Australia hasn’t done too bad either and started, some would say with the dregs and cast offs of English society. Of course, Australia got a much needed “shot in the arm” with Asian migration from that late seventies onwards.
Any farmer will tell you the “mongrel” horse and dog are invariably the smartest and hardiest of any group. “Thoroughbreds” tend to need pampering, lack intelligence, prone to disease and doom to extinction if left to fend for themselves.
On a practical level, my very livelihood relies on the intelligence of Indonesians who work with me. After working in a number of countries, I can safely say that Indonesians do not lack intelligence in any fashion and hold their own if not better against any others given the same (in fact they normally need less) opportunities. If someone could just tell me how to get people to take safety seriously we would be world beaters.

If someone claims that he knows all about the scientific evidence, I expect him to turn up results and use proper English to explain it. Everybody makes spelling errors, and I’m not a native English speaker myself. But all serious persons I met in academia (including those from Pakistan, Palestina and Congo) were able to cite properly and did not make the same very simple language mistakes over and over again.
Since you call this a form of racism it seems that you also have some advanced definition of it that I don’t know of. Could be, and maybe you’re right. I don’t really care about race.
I’ll just treat herr Anthony the same way I treat everybody with scientific claims, even if he’s an intellectual dwarf. -
“kampungs” point taken however for once it was meant perhaps a bit subtle for ya. Although in defence and without much effort, you could find at least three spellings of the word which all seem to be in common usage.
B.S. I agree not excuse for poor references in this day n age. I was actually more refering to people like Assmad and is ilk who revel in listing references and usage nonsense in order to demonise others. Of course this is the MO for the crocodiles and those who feed with them.

Stephan Gould wrote in the “Natural History”, that, contrary to Brocca’s theory, there is no correlation between the brain volume and intelligence. It is known, that famous people like Anatole France, F. J. Gall and Leon Gambetta have a brain volume btw. 1000 and 1100 cm³. O. Cromwell, George Fordon and Lord Byron owe brains with about 2200 cm³ and more. And the first named are at least as intelligent as the last listed.
I think Anthony citated Brocca, which mainly theorized about brains of man and woman to underline man’s supremacy and in era of national socialism the anthropology was misused to “attest” the supremacy of the arian intelligence.
But it is true, some of us have sadly a brain volume less than 100 cm³. 🙂 -

Just to update, the orginal subject of this thread is now an Ex-Muslim (ex wiccan ex..whatever) because her dog died???. This kid needs help, very confused little girl.
To sum it up, I’m an Australian ex-Muslim convert. I am now an atheist and an antitheist. I left Islam after a lot of doubting and thinking.
It was a tough process. My beloved canine companion of 14 years (“Beauty”) passed away, which resulted in thinking about death. This led me to think about the Hereafter, and whether the god in the Qur’an was truly just with his judgment.

I don’t intend to reopen this polemic about racially based intelligence, but as I’m not familiar with IQ-tests I would like to know whether these tests also measure creativity – creativity, as I understand it, being besides artistic capabilities also the intellectual ability to come up with unobvious solutions for different kind of problems.
And the question remains, how does one measure creativity? -
No, IQ tests do not measure creativity or social skills. Just intelligence. Well, at least they’re supposed to. There is no perfect test, it’s always adapted to context (age, culture, etc.) and the average score is always 100.
That means your only measuring relatively and can’t easily compare 20 year old Sheila’s test done in Australia with 30 year old Chen’s test from China (they are measured on different scales).I think most schools and economics people use Raven’s test.

Intelligence is a matter of definition. Every race, every species developed and develops in their evolution their “intelligence” depend on their needs in the environment and the socialization they live in. A colibri f.e. has developed a function in their brain (“intelligence”) which allow them to move their wing so fast as we know.
There are some studies about this question f.e. the studies done by Lars Chittka from The Research Centre for Psychology of Queen Mary University of London and by Jeremy Niven from The Department of Zoology of University of Cambridge.
