Trousers off for Women

May 26th, 2010, in News, by

The wearing of trousers, jeans, or any tight clothing becomes illegal for women in West Aceh.

West Aceh (Aceh Barat) regency in the province of Aceh in trailblazing fashion has become the first administrative area to ban Muslim women from wearing any type of tight clothing, specifically jeans/pants/trousers.

Jilbab hot
Criminal

While in other parts of Aceh, where Islamic sharia law is fitfully and gradually being introduced, women are only required to at least cover their head hair and not to flaunt their womanly shapes, West Aceh has seized the day in specifically banning jeans.

Sharia Raid
Caught

Roadblocks and patrols will be carried out, with the local government preparing 20,000 long flowing skirts to be distributed to women caught in violation of the law. Offenders will be required to change into the skirts on the spot, with their jeans being confiscated.

Offenders will also have their names taken down, and on their third offence will be taken into detention.

Under the new law, coming into force on 26th May 2010, shops and traders will also be forbidden from selling women’s jeans and trousers.

Regent Ramli Mansyur admits the regulation is controversial, but that it is a necessary part of the application of Islamic law.

As a leader I have to implement this law because in the hereafter I will be held responsible for my actions on Earth, and I will be held responsible by society.

He says, in a democratic spirit, that all elements of society support the new law, in majority terms. okezone

    ET,

Statistical studies consistently show the percentage of homosexual pedophiles to be roughly the same as the percentage of homosexuals in society.

  3. realest says:

The conclusion in this 7-page discussion: There is no such thing as moral values.
An episode on Boston Legal(underage voter case) got me thinking that pedophilia would be acceptable someday. I hope my time would’ve passed before that happens ……… wouldn’t want to be seen as a loony old man.

  4. Oigal says:

If the results include identifiable photos of both contestants, then it’s worth it so I can subsequently reprint one of the SW’s pics as warning notices along Jaksa.
    Beware of Oigal!

Laugh, that would be scary…outed by Ross on Jaksa. My social life would be over. 🙂

  5. Jakartass says:

I’ve arrived late to this thread as I was in Patungland for a few days, so apologies if I’m repeating something.

I’ve been aware of Ross’ fascist tendencies for some time. Former colleagues of his have noted that he would download BNP/ National Front (or whatever the racist bigoted Brits call their ‘political party’) literature from work computers.

I haven’t had the (dis) pleasure of reading his pulp fiction, loosely based on characters who, like himself, frequent the ‘dark and seamy’ parts of Jakarta and, thankfully, I’ve only met him once.

He was, and may still be, part of the British Embassy’s ‘warden’ network. That his published views on homophobia could result in prosecution if he were back in Blighty may be one reason that he remains in a country which he so obviously doesn’t feel part of.

    Except …

In spite of his white is right faux philosophy, he echoes the base instinct of Islamic fundamentalists here, and that is surely even more of a concern.

    Get well soon Ross.

  6. madrotter says:

damn that link is pretty shocking jakartass, i always read inside indonesia but this article escaped my attention…

    this:

Members of FPI told The Jakarta Post that Islam did not have a place for ‘those who intentionally exchange their given gender’ and that the raid was necessary to bring participants ‘back to the right path.’

    send shivers up my spine

  7. Jakartass says:

    Patung.

For “personal”, read Ross’ latest oeuvre, Jakarta Suckers, and the next time you come our way note the very identifiable characters in Jaksa Ross barely disguises.

It isn’t fiction he’s peddling. At least I’m open in my contempt.

  8. realest says:

fpi is a bunch of cowards led by a nazi who thinks ganging up on people is an ideal divine justice. anyway the laws of the land permits homosexual existence. Unfortunately if anyone wished to do some sodomy, they would’ve to take a boat, register it to australia, and do it on international waters. that’s as close as u can get because all neighboring countries have sodomy laws(including oral, anal and bestiality).

  9. realest says:

I just read 5 articles from inside indonesia and i can’t believe ppl here actually read that crap.

  10. madrotter says:

well they’re the only once’s writing about all the crap that’s been going on since we got the mayor that we have and I LIKE THAT

what’s your beef with them realest?

  11. realest says:

ive got a few grievances, mainly how amateurish those articles sound(at least we’ve the comments section in this site).
    1. for starters, insideindonesia(II) failed to mention that FPI consists of thugs who’s seen negatively by most indonesians
    2. ii’s highly inaccurate portrayal of indonesian(mainly chinese) labor migrants in the article American dreams. poorly researched and, if u’ve first-hand knowledge like i do, the article sounds like something you’d expect from a blog
    3. in costly inducements, my objection lies with the last sentence. Working in hongkong would end the cycle of poverty permanently for the whole clan. Imagine getting a child through a bachelor degree with those wages so their offspring would never again be poor or ended up sharefarming as their fathers did.

    @ Lairedion

Just sneakin’ in to say hi.

Hi Lairedion. How is life in the Netherlands? I heard Geert Wilders won a stunning victory in the last elections. A gain of 1 million voters and 16 more seats in parliament, if I’m right. Something’s definitely stirring in Oranjeland. In Denmark too.
To be somewhat in line with the subject under topic, will there be a kopvoddentaks (head rag tax) in the near future? What do you think?

  13. madrotter says:

I’m really deeply ashamed about this….

And he won most of his new votes in the South of Holland, many who voted for him because of his position on the age when you can retire (now 65 they wanna put it at 67) he declared time and again that his position was non-negationable (against). on the evening of his victory he went back at it betraying all those voters…

anything as long as he can be in the government….

The guy is a hate-monger, he shouts and raves a lot but when folks take the discussion to him he always backs off or walks out… remember his laughable film fitna, that anti-muslim movie? he’ll be coming out with another soon and this time he got help from moneyed folks in the states making it, it’ll sure rough some feathers here i can already imagine the headlines “hunting for dutch in jakarta, bandung etc.

funny thing, he’s ultra-rightwing but he comes from the old dutch punk/squatter scene, supposedly had his big turn-a-round when he was working at a kibutz in israel and he’s a staunch supporter of the zionists….

  14. madrotter says:

and no i can’t imagine a “kopvoddentax” in holland (although nothing surprises me any more i’m afraid) it was just another example of how he works, throw some outlandish idear in there and get loads of publicity…

    sigh….

  15. ET says:

Maybe the guy is just a polly like any other, hungry for power and lying and cheating on his constuency. But the fact is there that he got 1 more million votes than last time and because everybody knows what he stands for the fear of islamization must be real and tangible. As far as I know Holland has always been known for its tolerance (coffeshops anyone?) so if they suddenly turn islamophobe there must be serious reasons for it or something is basically wrong.

  16. madrotter says:

You wouldn’t believe how much Holland has changed since 9/11 that shit really had an enormous impact, and the last years they’ve had the CDA (Christen Democrats) in power, very, very rightwing together with the Labour Party (who have sold out ages ago). No coffeeshops allowed within 250 meters from any kind of school, meaning most of them have been closed down, a ridiculous rule because coffeeshops were enforcing the minumum age very well (the ubiquitous teenagers that hang around in the front: ‘mister, can you buy some weed for me?’)…. And it sucks, the prices for weed have risen to incredible hights, so what do you get? ofcourse the return of street/home dealers meaning more problems… Holland had the most succesful policy in the world when it came to drugs, the lowest percentage of junkies in the world, they were coming from all over to look at how it was done there, but no, those idiotic Christen fundamentalists know better (it’;s a bit of a mirror to what’s happening here) …

I can’t imagine a country that has more camera’s on their streets than they have in Holland, and more cops these days. They even closed down huge parts of the Amsterdam red-light district! And they wanted to totally close it!!!

  17. diego says:

Somehow the following clip reminds me of Ross….

  18. Lairedion says:

    ET,

The subject “kopvoddentax” is just too ridiculous to have an opinion. Criticism towards Islam or any other ideology is fine but not the Wilders’ way.

Jakartass, Ross has fascist tendencies? So we can expect a fascist all dressed up in tight wrestling wear. Thank you but I think I’ll skip this contest…

  19. madrotter says:

There’s a weird tendency among young members of the far-left to morph into the far-right at a certain age. We have this wingnut Islamophobe and ultranationalist here, David Horowitz, who was formerly a leader of Berkeley’s student movement in the late 60s, and a committed Marxist. Most neo-conservatives in the Bush administration were Trotskyists or FDR-style Democrats back then.

I think it’s because the far-left and far-right share a certain logic: that there are simple answers to complex problems, and that you can identify and castigate certain scapegoats responsible for those problems. The definition of problems, solutions and scapegoats change, but the extremist logic remains the same.

  21. Ross says:

I see that stuck-up clown Jakartass has finally entered a forum where he can be answered. He’s cautious in his Jakartass blog, careful to exclude critics.

I also note he lied mendaciously on the same dim-witted website, alleging I am rich through some imaginary fortune I inherited. This despite seeing me waiting for a bus at Kebon JeruK dulu, tho as usual he was too sombong to say Hi.

Bohong terus, as they say on Jaksa, where he fears to tread, probably due to anxiety that the bule sponger he’s fond of might tap him for a few K rupiah.

He admits on that semi-coherent blog that he hasn’t read my book, but takes exception to my humorous jibes therein at well-known Jaksa characters, gracefully disguised(including his fave ponce, whom he likes so much he abandons the wretch to the charity of Jakarta Globe lushes). What a dork!

Ass , you should never listen to drunken journos. They are no more reliable in gossip about ex-colleagues than are they deserving of their overblown salaries.

So Ass now has access to where I work? Through whom, may we ask? If so he will know I access every manner of political website, in order to send out my own email bulletin on current events. Given his own rather odd selection of views, he’s hardly in any position to crit others.

I look forward to some answers but don’t expect honesty from a pr-ck like Jakartass.

  22. Ross says:

    madrotter, Odinius, et al.
    Geert Wilders certainly has some
unfortunately liberal views views, but he is spot on as far as Islamisation is concerned. You can tell he’s on the right track by the way the establshment has put him on trial, free speech being a dead duck in modern Europe.
l suspect the judicial persecution he has has encountered had a lot to do with his electoral success.

  23. Odinius says:

Wilders: another wildly ridiculous hate-monger. That’s something Islamophobes and militant Islamists have in common.

    They should marry each other.

  24. diego says:

Actually I have a better idea…, a threesome between robert spencer of jihadwatch (jew), wilders (christian), and those islamists. Right, only group sex can unite those semitic religions together. They are products of a group sex after all (abraham + hagar + sarah).

  25. realest says:

@ross: ur right about tc. except for the part where he bashes your book, his style of writing tends to be ‘neutral’. i cant post no comments there either most prolly becoz im logging in from the office network

  26. Jakartass says:

Apologies if I failed to recognise you, Ross, but I am about to have corrective surgery on my eyes Still, given your propensity to mock manic-depressives and have little sympathy for others who write much better than you, I don’t expect you to have the courtesy (courage?) to re-introduce yourself the next time you see me.

  27. realest says:

is george mckay = ross? if yes, that seems like an old picture in fb. i found jakartass’s pic coz an online media article was written on him.

  28. Ross says:

I actually don’t mind harsh reviews of anything I write. That’s an occupational hazard. If the Ass had read it, he’d know that it IS fiction.
On the other hand, damning a book without reading it is a pretty slipshod approach, esp. for somebody who thinks he writes better than I.

So what is bugging him, apart from the fact that I’m conservative in my politics (hardly fascist, though compared to the Ass probably John McCain is a tad rightist!
Let’s try to figure it out….he seems uptight about some manic-depressive I’ve defamed, allegedly.

As I say it is fiction.
The characters get involved in all kinds of adventures including gunfights with a plutocrat’s henchmen in a Tangerang ware-house, helping an honest police general sort out loads of bad guys, plus assorted kidnappings etc.
Not activities of which I have personal experience, so far!

The Jaksa characters are modelled on numerous people, and blends of people, whom I have met over the years, and although I stick in a few obvious look-alikes, most of those who recognise themselves have not been in the least upset.
The thing is, I like the Jaksacrat blokes, and the Jaksa Chicks, with a handful of exceptions. There are a few manics, depressive too perhaps, but at least one of those is featured affectionately. The sorts I dislike are men and women who scrounge and take advantage.

But no big deal. I haven’t read Ass’s book either, though I have the grace to refrain from insulting it until I do read it.

What is just a tiny wee bit distasteful is that the Ass’s cronies have been trying to investigate my internet communications, (should we christen this episode AssGate?) Given his evident approval of the increasingly police-state condition of the UK, with its thought-gestapo attacks on free speech, no surprise, but infra dig, as they say.
Though their prying into my office computer couldn’t be where they got the info on my huge fortune, which sadly does not exist.
If it did, I would not live in a modest rented house in a non-bule area, I might even have a servant or two, and I would not habitually use public transport.
There’s no infamy in being rich, but I object to being desribed thus when it isn’t true.

Makes you wonder how much else of the Ass’s blog is hogwash!

Oya, anybody wants to see what I look like, come on down to Jaksa for the England game tomorrow -please bring Rp.85000 and you can have a copy of Jakarta Suckers! -you might even find yourself in its pages.

Just kidding, Ross. Have a nice weekend.
