Female Circumcision

H. Amidhan of the MUI, speaking in Banjarmasin, said that his august organisation had no problems with female circumcision, because it was a duty for Muslims, was safe and did not cause any health problems for those who underwent it.
Circumcision is especially meant to be done for a Muslim, because circumcision not only cleans the filth from the genitals but is a requirement for every Muslim, and it also helps to contribute to a child’s growth.
From the time of Abraham until that of Muhammad circumcision had been done, for both boys and girls, and it had become a part of the culture of the Muslim world, a part that could not be left behind. Those who said that circumcision caused harm had to prove their case, he said. Logic was then applied to justifying the practice, known often as female genital mutilation (FGM) or female genital cutting (FGC).
If there are those who say that circumcision causes damage or hampers reproduction then I think they have made it up. The proof is that there has been significant growth in the population of Indonesia and most Indonesians are Muslims who have been circumcised.
Not done he went on to say that circumcision was beneficial to Muslims, both men and women, because it removed the filth from the genital area. Islam approved of circumcision, for men and women again, provided it was done in the right way.
Because a Muslim must not pray unless he is clean and one way of being clean is to be circumcised.
Amidhan was not the only one of this opinion. Syamsuddin Hasan, from the Majelis Wilayah Korps Alumni Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam (KAHMI) in South Kalimantan agreed that female circumcision must not be forbidden by the authorities.
I fear that the attempt to ban it [female circumcision] is part of the mission of a certain group who deliberately use the health excuse, to the point where Muslim women will not be clean because they haven’t been circumcised, so they can’t pray in the correct way.
He advised Muslims who work in the health field to be on their guard and not co-operate in the effort to stamp out female circumcision.
September 28th. A study in six cities, Padang (West Sumatra), Serang (Banten), Bandung (West Java), Sumenep (Madura, East Java), Makassar (South Sulawesi), and Kutai Kartanegara (East Kalimantan), has shown that 90% of Indonesian women are circumcized.
Doctor Rachmat Sentika of a hospital Child Protection Unit and Dr Zaitunah Subhan of the religious section of the ministry for womens’ empowerment said that they had met with the MUI last week and been informed that the Department of Health must not try to forbid the practice. Sentika said that the MUI did object to the removal of the clitoris but that the “opening” of the clitoris was acceptable and that health professionals should be taught how to do it properly.

yes- but according to Javanese kejawen belief of Jogja- it is ceremonial cutting of a bay leaf.You will find most of your past Javanese Muslim conquests were also sunat and had clitoris present.
In my mother time- it was simply a needle prick to express blood on general inner female genital area. The needle could be gold susuk- like a talisman, a pin or for very poor and regressive peoples a tusuk bamboo.
You will also find most Javanese females are rather reticent, embarrassed or ignorant of correct uro-genital terminology- so when asked if she is sunat- she may not actually know exactly what sunat means in the Western sense.

My feelings on this subject are now widely known and I wouldn’t condone it being done to anyone but if someone broached the topic regarding male circumcision I know I can at least debate as they have their reasons. Hygeine and cleanliness etc. But with female circumcision I just got to say’what’s the point?’ What will it honestly achieve? They may or may not know what has happened to them but still it must be a terrifying experience for someone to come out and make the incision. But if they ever asked why it was done what answer could be given apart from cultural / traditional reasons?

It is so easy to retract the foreskin of the male penis when it needs cleaning. Would any of these people who believe in female genital mutilation think that they should cut off the end third of their penis so that they would always be clean? If it is done to restrict a woman’s desires well why don’t the male restrict his desire instead of mutilating a woman?
In Britain they have been some instances where a teacher noticed a pupil who had been taken ostensibly by her parents on holiday usually to Pakistan in extreme pain and distress. When the teacher called an ambulance when she noticed the girl was losing blood at a faster rate that would be normal with the onset of menses the hospital staff were horrified to see the damage that had been done. All the clitoris and the labia major and minor had been excised. Now a bill has been passed and it is illegal to mutilate young women in this barbaric manner. Some surgeons of the Muslim faith have been prosecuted in Britain for carrying out this type of useless operation.
So many men have the illusion that somehow a woman’s vagina is unclean, well if she regularly retracts the hood and washes there she will smell and taste very sweet. If she doesn’t she may well have a disease and will need to seek treatment for it.
The same for a male. If he does not retract his foreskin and wash regularly he will after a while stink. The smell of smegma is qute offensive and many men have very poor hygienic habits. I am referring to Britain here. So of you want to restrict Muslim women from enjoying sex and from straying restrict yourself first. Cut off the end of your penis and see how much interest you will have in intercourse!

But tell me this why is it only in cultures which had their religious origins in countries which had little or no rainfall that restriction of females occur. In arid conditions where water is scarce women are made to cover up and restrict their inherent sexuality. In Africa, parts of India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran in my view women are severely repressed and treated very badly. Most are sexually mutilated.

They were matriarchal not patriarchal. Women and children are treated as equals and a Polynesian would be outraged at even the thought of mutilating that part of a woman that he reveres as providing immense pleasure and the pathway to children.
Could it be that four harvests a year because of ample water has something to do with that?

Indonesia is not the slightest bit secular. The Pancasila talks about a belief in God (only 5 forms of religion allowed). Every citizen by law must state their religion on their government ID and on any forms they are required to fill. For a foreigner like myself I am still required to do the same. To say you don’t believe in God is not allowed. If I say then ask what do you want me to put down they usually say ‘just put christian’. (Bules are assumed to be christian) Even on my son’s documents they used to put ‘catholic’ as that is the religion of his mother, my wife. I don’t get a say and he (then less than 1 yo and unable to talk) wasn’t also. So we all must live a lie just to remain in the country. This is one of many reasons why I didn’t want to stay.
Secularism means that God and religion are separate from government. Meaning the Pancasila would make no mention of God and nobody would be required to state their religion anywhere outside a place of worship if one chooses to go there. So let’s cut the crap. Indonesia is an Islamic country which allows 4 other religions. Those who are not muslim encounter discrimination in employment, education etc if those running the institution are muslim themselves. Relgion ceases to become a personal issue between the follower and their church / mosque etc. I somehow imagine if a bule in their country asked a muslim at a job interview what their religion is they would be offended and assume we are going to discriminate against them. As that is the way they are brought up themselves in their own countries.

Simply not so. Different Polynesian islands had and have different gods, of the sea, of the forest, of the weather, etc. They had sacred places, altars, marae etc. In most of Polynesia that has been overthrown by a rather narrowminded variety of christianity, though it survives semi-underground. I don’t know of any Polynesian society that was or is matriarchal. Some have their patriarchy tempered by powerful roles for high-born women, or pillow-talk power for wives. There seems no particular reason they don’t cut women, when many cut boys.

Correct. But you should see the cases of female circumcision in Africa and Middle East. Indonesia may be still better. However, you should reckon that Indonesia is under threat of Arabisation and Wahabism.
And also note that the medical negative impacts of female circumcision particularly the high levels are much worse than of male circumcision

Okay, the FGM and Female Circumcision topic were long buried. I hope everyone is satisfied that FGM never happened with the moslems in Indonesia. When I was there just last- I had one suicase that was 35 kilo. One giant fat yobbo started whining about it being too heavy and not a safe working load- yet my daughter carried it without breaking a sweat.
It is against regulations worldwide to carry a bag that weight on an aircraft. This guy was just doing his job. You are just spitting that you can’t throw a bribe his way the way you can to a monkey from your own race back in Sukarno-Hatta Airport. I don’t care if your daughter can carry it but I know it’s crap. I’ve never met an Indonesian guy from outside the kampung class let alone a javanese middle class whore who can’t even make a decent cup of coffee that can carry that much because they are generally weak and pathetic.
Australian airports have regulations and documents written in many languages and facilities the superior of any in Indonesia. Everything is recorded and transparent unlike in Indonesia where Schapelle Corby’s ‘find’ was not recorded. What a joke. ‘but but but we are a sovereign country don’t question us’ they are sheer monkeys and lowlifes trying to convict our people for what mmmm marijuana when they can’t put away assholes who want to bomb not only bules but innocent Indonesian muslims too. I think we muzzled him on that one. Then he said, ‘Javanese are anti-Chinese’ but I proved to him that his own Bule species (the Americans) masterminded the Chinese massacre in Indonesia. He had his tail docked on this one.

I do know AAB that you danced in the street when the japs came to town and what a poor lack of judgement that was. I talked to an Indonesian woman who shed tears when I raised that point to her and she said it led to torture and rape on a level the dutch couldn’t begin to imagine. The point is after that you guys thought ooops wrong move and needed the bule forces to drive them out. No doubt you weren’t going to do it on your own. Neither the guts or know how to take on any force that isn’t poorer than your own ala the timorese

Actually, in Indonesia the words are generally taken to represent two different faiths – Catholics being, well, Catholics, and Christians being Protestants… In Indonesia if someone describes themself as “Christian” they generally mean “Protestant”; Catholics there don’t usually call themself “Christian”…
