Politically aware young lady Sandra Angelia scores a crushing victory for East Java in Miss Indonesia 2008.

At the Jakarta Convention Center on the night of 13th May Sandra Angelia from East Java became Miss Indonesia 2008, chosen by a seven panel jury which included our hyper-nationalist politician friend from Golkar Yudhi Chrisnandi. Sandra was also chosen as Miss Favorit by the SMS voting masses.

Kartika Indah Pelapory from Maluku was Runner Up I while Priscilla Yvonne Supit from North Sulawesi was Runner Up II, but enough about them.
Preacher Man’s Daughter
Sandra is the happy result of a union between Christian pastor Yusak Hadisiswantoro and Asti Tanuseputra. Her grandfather, Abraham Alex Tanuseputra, is the founder of the Bethany “Successful Families” Church.

Sandra says she is not at all used to wearing skimpy, revealing clothing, and she is very aware that as a preacher’s daughter she has to be careful in this area.

I have to wear a swimsuit in the competition, that’s no problem. But if it can be negotiated I will stick to eastern values, that is I will wear a one-piece swimsuit.

Sandra is an educated girl and after fleeing Indonesia at the age of 13 in the wake of the May 1998 riots she eventually studied architecture at the University of Western Australia in Perth. This may or may not have helped her face the final key question put by the judges, this being

I’m from Perth, and I’m pretty sure my Dad’s NOT a multimillionaire.
I’ve been here 6 years – 4 years of my life here were supported by my family, so she’s been here twice as long as me. Whats the deal ?
For Hardolin, it may sound quite a lot when you bring up such sum of money all at once – but hey, once you divide it by the years or by the months, even though its still a big amount you will find it quite affordable for a parent that SAVED ENOUGH for their children’s education.
Now if your parents didn’t save enough and you can’t afford to go to Australia, thats your problem with your parents. Hers surely did the exact opposite.
Not to mention the cost of living here per year is around $1000 per month – a very affordable amount specially if you’re working part time, as what I believe she did.
Seriously, grow up man. And can you just be happy that at least we have a SMART candidate this year that can actually speak FLUENT english ? ( remember Nadine’s disaster…. ) there you go.

Spending just $1000 per month for living cost in Perth is not enough; with that amount you barely cover the basic necessities. There are more funds are needed for other things such as socialising, shopping and other things.

Well, if the salary for undergraduate from Australia worth only about Rp 2 juta (thatâs around $ 250 a month), how much do you think a pastor worth a month?
Another thing, fluency in English is NOT a compulsory to be a Miss World or Miss Universe. There was lots of miss world or Miss Universe from South America or other non-English speaking countries who totally donât speak English but smart and successfully held the Crowns. Miss world 2007 is Zhang ZiLin from China, her English is not fluent, has a strong Chinese accent but she is smart.
It is clearly that fluency in English is NOT the main factor to be a Miss world.
Sandra was notorious for being lazy, she didn’t do much activities when she was a student in Perth. Never became a leader in anything, she didn’t have any serious skill.
She only hold an undergraduate degree from a university in Perth, never work as a professional in anything.
But yeah…. she loves shopping.I think the candidate from Jakarta was much better than Sandra.

She won the award because she performed best that night, that’s my argument. Sure, all the other girls might’ve been prettier or smarter, but they didn’t perform to the best they could, thus why they’re not chosen. Even if I don’t know Sandra, from how she performed on the Youtube streams I would’ve chosen her as the candidate anyways. She was just brilliant that night. Might be a fluke ? Thats a possibility, but that fluke happenned at the right time.

I donât have to know Sandra personally to know her life style in Perth, I have some reliable sources that can supply me with good info about her, and definitely she never worked as kitchen hand or cleaner when she was a student there.
Before you go astray, the reason for this discussion is about how to make Indonesia become a prosperous country with majority of the people can enjoy live like the way Australian people do or any other rich country do.
The last question for the 3 finalists were : âIndonesia is a rich country with so much natural resources but the majority of the people live under the poverty line. Why does it happen? How to build the country into the position it deserves?â
My main argument is the moral standard of the majority of the government officials in the country is very bad, corruption are everywhere even pastors are not immune to this degrading moral value. Lots of the so called pastors do not care about helping the poor anymore, they just care about how to be rich for themselves, milking money from their âsheepâ by applying compulsory 10% of their earnings to be paid to the church.
I donât want to discuss how bad the government is because the scope of the discussion would be too large; I only discuss the topic that happen to be to do with Sandra as this web site is about her.
The organization system that Bethany applied (the church group that belong to Sandraâs family) is very flawed and prone to the rampant corruption. Lots of people suspect that this group of people are actually some crooks who operate under religious masks. I agree, thatâs why I brought this matter for discussion. How could a so called pastor from a third world country afford to support his two children studied for 9 years in Australia spending about $60.000-$80.000 a year?

Thatâs nonsense! the salary standard in Indonesia is very low, even salary for professional degree holder from overseas only worth about Rp 2 juta per month, thatâs less than $250 per month, with this fact; how much do you think a pastor from a third world country worth? Another question: whatâs your dadâs job? I just want to know how an ordinary Indonesian can afford to support about $32.000 a year? (thatâs around Rp 225 juta per year). There are millions of Indonesians who canât even afford to have daily food, let alone 3 meals per day, but your dad can spend around Rp 20 juta per month for 4 years just for you alone! What kind of job does he do? How much does he make? Letâs make logical calculation here!

To answer your question, my Dad is a distributor for a chemical company. How much can a distributor make ? I have never go that far to ask him that as its just not ethical, but I know its not much at all. And I didn’t say everyone can send their kids here. I’m saying for a parent that knows how much education is worth, no amount is too much for them.
Yes, my Dad paid 16,000 per year for my education and some more for my living costs, but I believe he was able to do that because he saved enough for his children’s education. If a lowly distributor can do that, everyone else in a medium level should be able to.
I’m not involved in any way with Bethany as I am a Roman Catholic, but your accusations have come to a state where its just mere accusations without proof. Yes I’ve heard about that 10% of your income thing, and maybe thats just how they work, but you can’t accuse that he took all those money and use it for his own personal benefit. Maybe he’s got a side job ? Investments ? Savings ? Long Term Deposits ? list can go on and on but i can only keep guessing – and you can only keep accusing. Yes – that “surrounding” part is grammatically wrong, this proves that even some of the juries are not that fluent in english. Maybe if they were, she won’t be Miss Indonesia and someone else would. You say she didn’t perform well that night, but did the others perform better ? I don’t think so. But then again, maybe the juries aren’t educated enough to be able to make the right decision.
Sure, bribery is a big part of our culture, but that is not always the case. You do know that all the juries are very wealthy yes ? I think they’re chosen for a reason – they don’t need money. Sandra did not perform well during the contest, the other two last finalists performed better than her. Hey, just visited this site for the first time and read all this comments. Interesting discussion. Well I am just no one and will judge no one on who is right or wrong. I lived in the USA for 4 years and I am Chinese Indonesian and I am a Christian. I have been hurt by a church before. I loved the church where I went before, joined the choir, sang in the nursing homes at Christmas and for AIDS events. I loved the church , the pastor and the people so much until one day I found out that that pastor slept around with some of the congregations. Since then I found more and more bad things about the pastor. His actions just did not imply to his preaching. Now I have learnt not to easily trust people or pastors. They could say good stuff on the pulpit and make you cry, but on the other hand contradict theirself. Like on the news before some priests had relations with boys in his congregation for several years and caught them.
Oh well that’s just my personal expirence. I am still a Christian and I believe with NO DOUBT that Jesus is My Lord and Saviour. I just need to be more careful in picking a church and do not want to get hurt anymore.
I am attending a church service here in Surabaya every Sunday and am happy.
My opinion if there is a pastor living big, I think that’s wrong because it just does not reflect how Jesus is. Will I go to a church where the pastor living big? no. I am not judging the pastor because I am no judge. I beleive as a pastor you should know better what is good or wrong. If they lie, it’s their business with God so let’s not judge.
About sending your kids to study abroad, there is nothing wrong with that as long as the money is not “bad money” and would be better after finish studying then come back and implement it in your own country.
Distributing the wealth absolutely agree because it seems like the rich is getting richer and the poor is getting poorer. How can somebody makes a lot of money but then pays other so little.
Sandra Angelina, I don’t know this lady but I am sure she is good and she will do good in her life as long as She tusts in Jesus.
Let’s just live in peace in this world and not to judge other until the judgement day comes.

Not many students afford driving Mercedes to campus, and whatâs the point of driving expensive car? This Yusak can afford to support three of his children to live in Perth. Any year six kid can easily understand there is something wrong in this case! Sandra doesnât deserve to be a miss Indonesia, she is just too ordinary, chubby, body very average, doesnât have any serious skill, never became leader in anything, never interested in helping the needy. Many people know that Sandra & her family have very close tie with Liliana Tanusudibyo family, she is a rich woman who organised this pageant in Indo. I understand about the segregation between Chinese indo and Pribumi. Many people believe that the scoring by the judges were not fair, the majority of the judges are Chinese indo: Imelda Fransisca, Harry darsono, Peter saerang, Liliana Tanusudibyo, Marta tilar.
I am not sure if this âracial segregationâ factor plays a crucial role in the final decision, but one thing I am sure : Sandra doesnât deserve the title. Her answer during the final question was inaccurate because the law cannot be upheld successfully in a society where the level of education is low. The accurate answer must be EDUCATION!.
The other two contestants answered accurately but obviously majority of the judges knew who must be the winner no matter what their answers were!
Many people ask: if she is so determined to win beauty contest, why didnât she choose âPutri Indonesiaâ pageant? which is bigger and more extravaganza, organised by Miss Universe international and owned by Donald Trump. Most people believe that Sandra chose Miss Indonesia pageant just because Liliana is the organiser of the pageant. If there is no Liliana in the pageant, I am sure she wouldnât have joined the pageant in the first place!
