Politically aware young lady Sandra Angelia scores a crushing victory for East Java in Miss Indonesia 2008.
Miss Indonesia 2008
At the Jakarta Convention Center on the night of 13th May Sandra Angelia from East Java became Miss Indonesia 2008, chosen by a seven panel jury which included our hyper-nationalist politician friend from Golkar Yudhi Chrisnandi. Sandra was also chosen as Miss Favorit by the SMS voting masses.

Kartika Indah Pelapory from Maluku was Runner Up I while Priscilla Yvonne Supit from North Sulawesi was Runner Up II, but enough about them.
Preacher Man’s Daughter
Sandra is the happy result of a union between Christian pastor Yusak Hadisiswantoro and Asti Tanuseputra. Her grandfather, Abraham Alex Tanuseputra, is the founder of the Bethany “Successful Families” Church.
Eastern Values Girl
Sandra says she is not at all used to wearing skimpy, revealing clothing, and she is very aware that as a preacher’s daughter she has to be careful in this area.
On the vitally important bikini issue (see past Indonesian beauty pageant winners’ problems with this – Nadine Chandrawinata) Sandra was asked by journalists – would she be willing to wear a bikini at Miss World 2008 in the Ukraine? Sandra says
I have to wear a swimsuit in the competition, that’s no problem. But if it can be negotiated I will stick to eastern values, that is I will wear a one-piece swimsuit.
Smart
Sandra is an educated girl and after fleeing Indonesia at the age of 13 in the wake of the May 1998 riots she eventually studied architecture at the University of Western Australia in Perth. This may or may not have helped her face the final key question put by the judges, this being
Indonesia is a country rich in natural wealth but so many of its people are very poor and it is a largely agrarian economy. Which economic sector would you prioritise if you were leader?
Sandra took the crowd by surprise, and won the admiration of the judges, by going off on a tangent that the most important thing was to ensure that the law was upheld and applied properly in Indonesia, and that other things would follow from this.
Triumphant moment.

I heard that Miss Indonesia 2008 is a Chinese Indonesian
I have decided from here on in, whenever I encounter silly people saying silly things about “Chinese Indonesians”, gently to point out that, if you go back a few thousand years, almost all “Indonesians” originated in China anyway. You could therefore say that those who arrived in more recent centuries and who are now pejoratively tagged “Chinese” in Indonesia are actually just another wave in the long trend of imigration from China that has peopled the Southeast Asian archipelago…
The only “Indonesians” who cannot, ultimately be traced back to China are the Papuans and Melanesians in the far East, and the small handful with names like “bin Habib Ali”, who, generally, are of Hadramawt origin… Perhaps to them we ought to say “GO HOME to Yemen you dirty immigrant! Leave the pround Chinese-origin nation of Indonesia alone!”
However, I have to say I don’t our Sandra is much of a looker… what’s with that awful rictus grin? She looks like she’s undergoing some painful medical procedure…

I hope you can be a winner as Miss World because wear bikini and like a stupid girl to show your body for all people in world “SHOW MUST GO ON”.
what are you trying to say here my friend?
please read what she said very carefully.
“stick to eastern value”
just be positive lah…
will you not be proud if she win the title of miss world?
at least we can make sure that she will not say indonesia is a big city
hahahaha
Sandra is an Indonesian girl, born in Indonesia, from Indonesian parents. She reserves all rights to compete for the Miss Indonesia title, despite her upbringing in Australia. She fled to Australia for a reason too, and I would’ve done the same if I felt my security is being under scrutiny in my home country. She also reserves the rights to represent the country, and I’m sure she’ll be a good representation of a multiethnic country called Indonesia. God bless her!
People like Mr. Bin Habib Awi don’t deserve to live in Indonesia. He provokes and promotes hatred and we’re tired with people like this guy! We just want to live peacefully in Indonesia. This kind of people should’ve lived in the outer space where they would float like meteorites.
Hey dude, I am not christian but I won’t say anything to insult the religion. Honestly I am proud of this girl to become miss indonesia. She is smart, intelligent and pretty, so what’s wrong with her background? PEACE !
Muhamad Bin BABI Awi is a troll. Nevertheless I agree with you, he’s amusing LOL
I know he’s a troll – hence my questioning of his “existance”, and my slightly less than serious response. But if no one ever responded to trolls these forums would be pretty dull places, eh?
Congratulations.
A good decision, I find her attractive and cute. I hope MISS WORLD judges doesn’t stress so much on height…
Congratulations Sandara and God bless you .

The reasons behind all of these, as far as my research the current Miss Indonesia is the daughter of a Bethany priest, if I’m not wrong his father was called Yusak. And I reckon that she is a Christiant too.
I don’t think Yusak is a Christiant name. To me it sounds Jewish, like Isaak (Hebrew: Yishaq)…
Astagfirullah, everything is clear now. The entire jury was composed of Mossad agents. Look at the name of this Yudhi – probably an acronym for Yahudi – Chrisnandi. Even Golkar is infiltrated.
^^hua ha ha.
And I dont think Mh. Alwi is real. Just “kompor”, trying to insult race sentiment of the readers.
I like Sandra to be Miss Indonesia. She is pretty, smart, and good in English, but a little bit short. But Good Luck…
Btw I am also Chinese Indonesian but I am proud to be Indonesian where I live, where I grow. In my opinion Indonesia is not Moslem Country but we are Bhineka Tunggal Ika. That means although we are different, but we are united. Although I am also Christian, I respect all Moslem, hopefully they would respect me and the good news is the moslem people in my community also repect me! I appreciate that so much.
So lets just support Miss Indonesia without negative thinking. By a positive thinking we will be a good human. =)

?????golkar also involved in this scenario?? 😀
And as far as my research goes, I heard a lot of people saying a bad things about the Bethany church. They do a lot of dirty works and con people. I heard from people that this Bethany church is working to “steal” people money and maybe, I said maybe, he could use the money to buy the judge to win her in this competition.
This is not a Moslem tought …. You just disgrace your people. Shame on you ….
We don’t have right to judge …
coz we are not the Judge
The winner has been anounced and She has the right ….
Be cool … be wise …
I was there to witness MISS INDONESIA 2008 live! And I am totally agree that Sandra is very much qualified as the MISS (Manner, Impressive, Smart, Social)!!! There’s no racism or prejudice here. She’s just awesome!
😀 Only jaka can see, you are right bro, she (abu awi) saw this situation & use it, so everyone angry & blame on moslem, so let’s be wise!
Well I’m a moslem an I’m a Javanese…… but I don’t have the same opinion as muhamad has!! I think the judges are quite fair, considering the founder of Miss Indonesia is a very rich woman so she doesn’t need that kind of ‘money’ from the contestant….
Keep Indonesia in Unity!!! UNITY IN DIVERSITY…. theperson like muhamad just want us to fight against each other!!!! He is a provocator!!!!!!! So, don’t listen to him!! Please…. keep Indonesia stay in peace……
Congratulation..! Jesus love you, Sandra.
congratulation to Sandra!!! you deserve to be Miss Indonesia 2008!!!!
The reality is that to suggest that this is some kind of conspiracy to annoy indigenous Indonesians is so far out into left field that it is almost funny. Unfortunately, the conspiracy theorists are dangerous as their bigotory will only serve to fan the proverbial flames!
For those of you that attribute this to God based on the idea that God makes all things possible I have this question, would you be making the same comments in reverse if she did not win and blaming her loss on the Devil?
If you believe in God then you must believe that God granted us free will to make mistakes and to sin along with the ability for prayer to address our failings and short comings.
Sandra Angelia won because the judges in the exercising of their free will decided that she was the best in the competition and was a worthy winner and the best person to represent Indonesia in the next stage of the competition. Why not give credit where credit is due; simply, she is a smart and attractive young woman of considerable intellect and a deserving winner!
Just a thought!

Do you mean Habib is the result of an alliance between Janma and Cukurungan. If so, I’m not surprised. Nothing normal can come out of such a mismatch.
P.S. Sorry Janma, I couldn’t resist this one. 😉
dewa – LOL 🙂
I am not a theologian and my comment is based on my limited knowledge of the scriptures so perhaps I was commenting out of my depth. I might have to go back and do some study on the subject. I always thought that the idea of free will was a tenet of early Christian thought.
I can see the logic in an omnipotent God being a brake on free will. However, do Catholics believe in the free will concept or has my whole understanding on this issue been wrong from the start?
The current Pope is on record as saying that Protestant Churches are not real churches so perhaps by logical extension then Protestants are not real Christians either…
