A letter to president SBY questioning the Indonesian mentality.
Yang Terhormat Bapak President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono,
It must be an unenviable job to be the President of the Republic of Indonesia. I mean who ever thanks the President for anything especially when matters seem to head in a different direction than the one intended?

Your team must be earnestly strategising the next Presidential elections for you. I hope my letter will reach you in time. As always, you have to refute the smear campaigns and face all that mud slinging, especially when it is done in a democratic environment like Indonesia.
You would be ill advised if you use the same manifesto that led you to your first victory. Avoid blaming it on the Economy like Mr. Clinton did because that would incriminate your establishment. You have to use a different strategy.
How about using this slogan instead?
It’s the mentality, stupid.
Also, avoid mentioning the state ideology Pancasila because that too could do some damage and be to your disadvantage.
You could take heed from George Aiken, who said:
If we were to wake up some morning and find that everyone was the same race, creed and color, we would find some other causes for prejudice by noon.
See Bapak President, it is a common human trait to find other causes even though you would graciously give your opponents a handicap in the run up.
Accuse your opponents as Aburizal Bakrie wannabe’s, terrorist sympathisers, bigots, religious hypocrites, political rogues, liars and maligners all – that it is their mentality that impedes nation building and prosperity in Indonesia. That it is their diabolical mentality that has repeatedly wrought unspeakable tribulations upon the rakyat.
That it is not your previous appointment as President that caused earthquakes, tsunami, mudflows, floods, landslides and the volcanoes to erupt. On the contrary it was their stupid collective mentality that caused nature to belch. I am sure that Mr. Gore will gladly support you and declare that it was all the hot air from your opponents that is the cause of Indonesian climate change and calamities.
Should you find this suggestion interesting and of any use in your forthcoming campaign, please direct a few of your campaign staff to register at Indonesia Matters. You see, over at Indonesia Matters, there is a cool collection of mentality missiles that your campaign strategists could use.
I quote a few examples of mentality that can be found at IM.

Bapak President, just in case you may need a few more –
– begging mentality
– “fixing” things mentality
– King and commoner mentality
– Barbaric mentality
– Mediocre mentality
While the campaign is in your favour, tell them even though America is regarded as the most powerful nation, America too faces a mentality problem. Tell them what George Santayana said but with your astute leadership, Indonesia will not become mentality-enfeebled and for some other George to say the same thing about Indonesia.
America is a young country with an old mentality
Bapak President, you would of course know that when it comes to choosing a winner, it is all in the mind simply because the mind so chooses to believe only in what it chooses to believe in. Twits being the only exception.
Implore the rakyat not to be twits like your opponents. Twirl the rakyat’s minds around your fingers about the disgraceful, degrading and disastrous mentality of your opponents. And most importantly, ensure that you make the rakyat’s minds choose what you believe in.
Once again, Mr. President, you need a clear, cogent and strong strategy to win. It must be one that resonates from Aceh to Zbolo (don’t ask me where it is).
I wish you success.

No one has to want anything, but what is annoying about Australians is the self-evident and sometimes arrogant use of their ‘lingo’, as if everyone and everybody has to understand and take it for granted.
@ dewaratugedeanom
Fair dinkum.

Fair crack of the whip, mate… Ever heard of Google. It is how I make sense of a lot of the posts you Indos make…
I have to Google half of the stuff Aluang calls me because it is kinda primitive… Like when he suggested I become a cycle powered taxi driver. (Sorry English has no word for this…) Most Aussies if called a bule would Google it or more likely ignore it. Any phrase of mine you find mysterious — Google will enlighten.
What I have seen of Aluang’s posts make me entirely demotivated to learn his language. As his English is Nazi racist bigoted ranting, why would I assume something profound is lost in translation?
Sorry and all that but somehow I don’t think Aluang will miss me at the Academy of Imperial Mojo Wah Wah Sun Shines Out of His Aristocratic Ass Studies of the Republic of Komodo… Nor I him. 🙂

Sorry to hear that. Many Indons are not aware that Ozzie could’t grasp simple busswords. Well, some roos are loose in the top paddock.

‘a cycle powered taxi’ is called trishaw in proper English dictionary. New word to add to your Sand Groper & Banana Benders’ dictionary. Macquarie dictionary need to catch up to Oxford, Cambridge, etc.

Hey cool it, matey. You are acting like a double standard figjam. Your little Nazi Pauline don’t need to go to jail, whereas a Brown man will be locked up for sharing some little truth.
Sorry and all that but somehow I don’t think Aluang will miss me at the Academy of Imperial Mojo Wah Wah Sun Shines Out of His Aristocratic Ass Studies of the Republic of Komodo”¦ Nor I him.
Some truth hurts so your response is insults and more insults.

It wasn’t meant personal, but here in Bali we deal a lot with Australians and Google isn’t always at hand.
However, I have lived in Australia for a while and more than once I got the impression that locals (mostly Ango-Saxon), seeing or hearing that you’re not one of them, seemed to enjoy using slang to take the piss out of you and see you embarrassed. Not the best way to achieve mutual understanding, don’t you agree?
From his earlier posts I suppose Aluang Anak Bayang had similar experiences and this may be one of the reasons he sometimes has difficulties keeping his testosterone in check.
Yth bapak president SBY,
Pls allow me to add a few words to you.
1. Indonesia quit as an OPEC member.
In my opinion, it is not acceptable that we withdrewed as an OPEC members. It is a big setback which we lost the status as an oil producer after 40+ years. In simple term, we are not capable to maintain the heritage status from previous generations.
If I were you, I would exercise my power to perform whatever it takes to prevent it from happening. The preemptive moves that are mandatory to be achieved in your first 2 years of presidency are below.
– Why Pertamina privatization is not in place after your 4th year as president ?
– Why do you keep your coordinating energy minister despite of his failure to improve the Indonesian oil reserves ? and his unability to avoid & deal with the Porong disaster ?
2. Fuels price hike
If there is the truth the fuels’ local demand much stronger than our production increment rate, then we shall expect the industrialization growth at the level surpassing the old regim of OrBa, the reality is in the opposite site, we have not recovered at the level of 1990s industrialization peak level. The slogan of pak Andi Malarangan (your spokeman) : on “his new paradigm, we do not subsidize products but to subsidize poor people” are not untrue but unproportionately addressing the root cause in this case. We will pay higher fuels if we can see result of economy & industrialization progress like in Thailand’s industrialization for example.
If there is the truth our soils have no more hydrocarbon reserves, then why there were no precaution movements for Pertamina venturing exploration under JV or overseas contract sharing with greener neighbours like Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar who may benefit from the Pertamina expertises, afterall Pertamina was one of the national oil icons back in 1950s . What is stopping Pertamina to venture & explore outside of Indonesia to bring back the oil for us in 2005/2006/2007 ? Why Petronas able to do that while Pertamina can not ? Why pak SBY ? I think I am not too much for demanding Pertamina as healty as, as profitable as, as professional as … Petronas. Afterall Petronas still far behind Shell, BP, Exxon as a perfect standard.
If there is the truth that ‘rakyat’ (society) be it the rich or the poor level have to pay the expensive lesson learnt because of the elite’s incompetencies in governing this country ? This incompetencies topics are not exclusive belong to the government but also applicable to our legislative governance. But twisting the fuels price hike to the matter of subsidy to the poors while letting the rich to pay more are completely avoiding the root cause of problems of Indonesia. It is not false but do not address the main topics. In this case pak Andi has done his excellent public speech job but not enough to convince me to touch the root cause matters.
Only you as the president who know the truth, the real answers because you have all the insight, access & confidential data and the ability to think with the heart, with compassion, with justice and moral responsibility to our next generation.
Wassalam pak & hidup Indonesia

I hope if possible to seek assistance from ICW on the case of this Aburizal Bakrie. But as to Jusuf Kalla and Yusril they are no close secrets to their dirty politic.
Much of what you said like mails to the President are mostly not such high profile protest knowing the consequences since they are still in Indonesia.
Appreciate any other documentary assistance be sent to discriminatedminorities@yahoo.com.
