Gym, the head of the Darud Tauhid Islamic boarding school, and an often seen presence on television screens, explains that polygamy is a legitimate practice within Islam, sanctioned by God himself, but it’s not for every Tom, Dick, and Harry:
Polygamy is clearly allowed by God, but it is not recommended. Polygamy can be done in certain ways as an emergency exit.

It is not clear what exactly is the situation from which Gym is seeking an emergency exit.
Gym admits that his decision has upset a lot of people, especially women. He says that the two injunctions which his legion of followers most often convey to him are, from men: don’t get involved in politics; and from women: don’t have more than one wife. He says he has already discussed political issues, like the RUU Pornografi debate, because pornography is something which damages the nation, he feels bound to discuss it.
For polygamy he says that many people in Indonesia regard it as an always negative thing. Most women are not able to accept the matter, it hurts them, he says, but there is a small group of women who can. Those who criticise polygamy, he says, should remember that it is God’s law. mediaindo

What u saw / heard was about the unfairness of the polygamy.It is true that no men shall be fair to his wives. But let’s look on the positive side. I came across one newspaper published in Malaysia this morning title ” Villa madu 4″ which became their front page story or u can go to http://www.hmetro.com.my. It is about a man with 4 wives staying together in one big mansion with their 17 children. The second wife was a chinese Buddhist, converted to Muslim and have been married for the past 27 years. According to law, Aa Gym’s has right to married a 2nd wive. So what is wrong?
The wrong things are:
1. Tete Ninih gave Aa Gym permittion for the 2nd married. Do you think his wive really iklhas, rela? I don’t think so, she cried and said if this is the hardest time in her life. So whoever support Aa, please also consider tete Ninih’s feeling. She really hurt (sangat sakit hati). Tete Ninih never IKLHAS, dia terpaksa bukan rela.2. In his Dakwah he said if a man have to make his family happy. So his action and his word is totally different. The 1st wive never can be happy anymore.
3. His 2nd married is not because emergency exit but just for having a fun sex
Just imagine if you are tete Ninih, will you support your husband to married a 2nd sexy beautiful women? Imagine if your dauther crying to you because her husband want to married again. So still want to support Aa? All of you gonna meet in the hell. Please never used religion to protect yourself, especially just for your fun. As a Muslimah, I am very angry you use Islam to protect yourself. It made Islam looks as a bad religion.

i know there are rare occurances where a man can actually shares his life with 4 women, thus people who are saying bad things about aa gym should consider what they are actually saying, are they actually against polygamy in general or are they just against aa gym? if so, are these people just don’t like aa gym or are there any hidden agenda behind this? i am sure that there are people who are using this as an avenue to bash Islam. this is what makes me mad, those people are just hypocrites, they just use any means to meet their ends. so for those people this is what i am going to say (actually this is a quote) – “let he who is without sin cast the first stone”.

Aa kok gatel sich, padahal sebagai ustadz harusnya bisa menjadi tauladan buat semua, terutama penggemar aa yang mayoritas ibu ibu. I’m absolutely agree with you. These kind of people are making fun of Islam and I’m not really sure what were their intentions. It is pretty sad to see those negative comments about Islam. Islam this and Islam that. Not only about Aa gym’s polygamy but also on other matters. Personally, I dont know much about Aa gym becoz I’m not Indonesian, but during my visit recently to Jakarta with my family, I did watch an Islamic programme hosted by Aa Gym. To me, he is an adorable and knowledgeable leader.
I’ve been on this site for a couple of week and u know what, I’m so frustrated with our Moslem brothers and sisters’s attitude towards Islam. Some of them clearly smashed-up Islam. What a shame! Yes, no doubt that Aa gym was their Islamic idol before but we must ask ourselves the justification of polygamy in Islam? To avoid adultery. I came across one comment by our Moslem sister;
“Kami malu terhadap umat non Muslim, karena seolah-olah laki-laki Muslim (terutama ulama2nya) identik dengan TUKANG KAWIN/BANYAK ISTRI!!! ”
I wonder what will happen to the fanatic fans of Aa Gym if he was caught for adultery!? To me, they should be ashamed with YZ for not learning and practicing the true teaching of Islam. YZ is the bad guy here. Not Aa Gym. I bet that no religions in this world allows adultery.If YZ is not Moslems, is there any religion in this world who is willing to accept YZ as their followers and justify his act of adultery?
Hiv/Aids disease infected women and housewives most. Why? Does it becoz their husbands practised polygamy? I dont think so..

Why should you be so egoistic. AA Gym has the right to do what he wants. What he has done is purely legal. He is a gentleman, and my thumbs go up to him. I will still support him even in case that he decides to marry more women. He is a normal human being who has been gifted with normal sexual desire, and sex is never good or bad. The way how you make it determines whether it is good or bad.Dont you see how many monogamists have made illegal sex with the slut communities? How many monogamists have divorced their wives and let their children unsupported? Can people distinguish between the legal and illegal sex?

If you are Christian and critisizing AA Gym due to the polygamy, you should critisize your self for getting married. Jesus never gets married, so why should you be married? Polygamy is neither bad nor good. Making sex in illegal way is bad.

To avoid adultery.
Mat, it’s kinda sad if you think that to avoid adultery, polygamy is the way out. I think that’s just creating another lame excuse. Now, if your wife did the same, what would you do? I mean this isn’t about bashing Islam, this is about those women who ARE FORCED to share their men just because of some lame excuses. Now again, what would you do if your wife -to avoid adultery- married another guy?
If I were you, I could not let that happen. Fortunately, I’m against the idea of polygamy as well.
I mean Mat, regardless of what your religion is.. life is about winning against temptations-lust.

I am very disappointed with Aa Gym. Before he revealed his ‘secret’ second marriage, I gave him my respect, as a moderate Moslem leader who teach his people to open their heart and mind. After what ‘he’s done’, I take my respect from him. He is just mere man, not anymore an extraordinary religion leader who can control his deepest needs and wants.
