One Child Policy

Vice president Jusuf Kalla said to representatives of the national family planning agency (BKKBN) on the 6th that families on the island of Java have to be restricted to only one child. Java was small and overcrowded, and, he is reported to have said, once the Jakarta floods had receded those who wanted children should have only one.

Outside of Java Kalla said that there was still much development to be done and a healthily growing population would be of benefit to this. In places like Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo) and Sulawesi (Celebes) families should be allowed to have up to three children. Those in (West) Papua could have up to five children, he said.

There couldn’t be a single and uniform family planning policy for the whole country, Kalla went on, because each area was different. The economic capacity of each province, as well as its land area, education facilities, and other factors, had to be taken into account when determining ideal family size for each place. tempo

And burning forest is not the cheapest way as the long term effect extends a lot longer than you think and in the end it is costly, doesn’t necessarily comes in monetary term, but it does cost the environment. It affects health of many people and disturbs the balance of nature and ecosystem. Rain forests take decades to form, it stores water and other necessary resources. It keeps the lands stay where they are. Burning for survival? Do you think before you talk? Typical Indo to only think of short term outcome. Most of land clearing are done by illegal logging for money. From clearing you get land slides, mud slides, flood problem, ecological problem, smoke inhalation, and lots of other problems which human will have to (if not already) pay for their own action. Indonesia has no shame for polluting neighbors and yet still not doing anything about it, instead they seem to be proud and indifferent about this issue! Why should we be proud of this?

If you don’t like the way the Americans live, then don’t follow their ‘game rules’. You may think I do but I don’t. I can’t afford to lead a lavish life. Brother’s initially my opinion is the same of yours but when I checked it by myself in the forests. I don’t know what is our poor farmer should do to clear the land for farming. Will anyone provide tractor, bolduzer and manpower to clear the land. Our farmer has no choice to make living while Gov. only done very little to help them.
Of course, there will be considerable impacts to environment and anyway our rakyat Indo can still deal with (biasa hidup sulit) and let our smoke flowing to our neighbors country so they will not only enjoy illegal export logging from our fool Gov. but also enjoy smoke of the burning bushes.
We have to be little tricky when dealing with our prosper neighbors country and if they couldn’t stand anymore with our smoke let them give their money to our poor farmer to buy stuff required to clear the land in environmentally manner.

But Cuk, that’s our Gov’s fault. They are very very very very corrupt. It’s a public knowledge. International even. But why then we have to again put our hand out and ask for other countries to help us? The Gov should do it! That’s their job! That’s what they are paid for! We can’t let them get away with it! It’s shameful to keep handing our hands out. Begging. Getting others to pay for our own mistakes and stupidity. It’s just like you having a child but you abandon him, why should he get a support from the neighbors and not you? He’s your responsibility. The rakyat is the Gov’s responsibility. Without us they won’t be in power. I reckon there should be a coup! Abolish the Gov. If anything needs to get burnt down, there’s nothing better than burning the Gov offices, ministers, and the pemerintah down to the ground. We rakyat are sick of this BS we are having to face everyday! Indonesia has received more help than any other 3rd world countries. The only different is that we have a metropolitan area, so it’s not like we are very poor. The Gov makes us think we are poor while they roll in their glutony.
