Partai Hanura

Dec 22nd, 2006, in News, by

Army pensioners, including General Wiranto, declare a new political party, Partai Hati Nurani Rakyat (Hanura).

Retired military commander General Wiranto and a number of retired generals yesterday formed a new political party in preparation for the general elections in 2009, the Partai Hati Nurani Rakyat (Hanura), or People’s Conscience Party.

Besides Wiranto other former military commanders involved include Lieutenant General Suaidi Marasabessy, General Fachrul Razi, General Subagyo H.S., (police) General Chairul Ismail, and Admiral Bernard Kent Sondakh.

Suaidi said however that former military leaders comprised “only” 30% of the 100 declarators of the party.

Among the civilians who have joined the party are Fuad Bawazier and Samual Koto, both former executives of the National Mandate Party (PAN), and Djafar Badjeber, a former secretary general of the Reform Star Party (PBR). antara

Additionally, former Economy minister Kwik Kian Gie, former Golkar party chairman Akbar Tanjung, former vice president Try Sutrisno, and former president Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur), witnessed the declaration of the party on the 21st. Gus Dur gave a speech in which he said Wiranto was well suited to become a national leader. antara

Fuad Bawazier said previously that the party was founded on Pancasila principles, was inclusive, not for the elite, and hoped to become one of the top three parties. republika

Wiranto was a presidential candidate of the Golkar Party in the presidential elections in 2004 who came third with 22% in the first round of voting. His running mate was Solahuddin Wahid of the PKB.

The new party seems to be an outgrowth of the Gerakan Kebangkitan Indonesia Raya (GKIR) (see Nationalism, Wiranto, & Kwik Kian Gie, June 2006).

General Wiranto says Hanura will seek to imitate the Justice Party, Partai Keadilan Sejahtera (PKS), in its upholding of high moral values and good character, and will seek to recruit members who are pure of heart.

He said the party had managed to attract a number of experienced political figures including Nico Daryanto, Fuad Bawazier, Samuel Kotto (formerly of PAN), Djafar Badjeber (the founder of the PBR, Partai Bintang Reformasi) and Ary Mardjono (former secretary general of Golkar). antara

    Hanura will fail at the polls. With the new electoral threshold of 2.5% in place Hanura will have a very hard time to win a seat in parliament. And honestly, who needs Hanura? Another backwards, conservative military-dominated party? I think we had enough of this.

    Bapak Wiranto, peoples are now crying facing the very hard life to make a survival. As one of the said people and as one of your party functioner. l can see what really the peoples want and what type of leader they need to make their life easier. You are the one who left in between the most Top Leader in Indonesia who can change the color of the Indonesian peoples life and to bring them out from the suffer. Honesty is not just enought to make some one to be a good leader. The real good capable leader needed in Indonesia nowdays should be principally, honest, entrepreneurship, economist and not hard up to be a number 1. And all the said items in you pak Wiranto. As a Hanura Functioner in Kepri, I always pray from time to time for you to become a hope leader by the peoples in the future.

    Maybe the fella is just trying to clear his conscience by establishing a politcal party that could invariably be translated as the Conscience Party, the Pure Heart Party, or derivatives of these…

    It is sad that parties in Indonesia are established not for reasons of providing a voice to constituents and followers of the relevant parties but rather as vehicles to promote personal agendas, settle old scores, and generate wealth…

    Hopefully, this is just an intermediate phase in the path to greater and more representative democracy throughout the Archipelago!

  7. Aswen Dores says:

    Hanura is an expected four bigest number of Party in Indonesia in future. And the people of Indonesia throuhgt the past few leader (Presiden) are now relised that there will be no one else at the moment who complately can make the changes of the deepest sorrow in economic and life problem in Indonesia and also peoples are looking foward for a leader who can end the crises in every aspect that the Indonesian feel right now. You are the one pak Wiranto among the top leader that the peoples of Indonesia believe to bring them out from this deepiest sorrow.

    Mr. Wiranto,
    We’re fed up with any military-base political movement.
    Mr. Wiranto, you have demonstrated your poor record in the past with the Soeharto’s regime as well as with your maverick political party you set up in the 2004-election-year.
    We’d be happy to see you sitting still supporting the civilian building the nation without weapon (at least not to shoot students in their campuses).
    May God bless you.

    Indonesia is one of largest country in the world . For every big country who facing the process of the democracy how ever needs the principly and powerfull leader. Otherwise it is very hard for the country to achive the democracy it self. It was seen and felt during the jorney of Democracy in Indonesia. Most of the peoples in Indonesia missused the meaning of Democracy. So then people run and run to grab what they want which they… them self do not know what they got and for. To me democracy is one of precious thing for all the peoples, but if we do not know what is the meaning of it and what is the democracy for, it will be harmful things to the peoples of Indonesia. For example USA needed more than 50 years to achieve them. So Indonesia need The Real Good Leader, honest and tegas to carry them . Firstly the most important thing to do is how to make the peoples understand about it. And Indonesia need to do it step by step and through the right process untill the meanig of democracy really known by the peoples. The expected politicle party accordingly to their name, HANURA is the one and predictably who can do it. Because the past few years none of the politicle party can prove and do it for the peoples in Indonesia. Pak Wiranto I think the peoples in Indonesia now relised that the past few leaders were failed to make them living in good life. So they need your crediblity Pak . *

  10. Rob says:

    Aswen…

    If possible could you elaborate on where Pak Wiranto draws his credibility from?

    Thanks…

  11. Aswen Dores says:

    Mr. Rob I think this page is not a place for us to make an dialog. Nevertheless, I have to answer your question. Pak Wiranto ever have two times chances to be a presiden when he was in melitary commad last time. With highly humanity’s senses considerations, made him to refuse so . Basically, a good leader must have senses for the peoples and from there then he can do the best for peoples . We have passed a few leaders till todayand what happen, peoples are still suffer from making a life while corruption activities are still going on. Credibility may be in so many peoples but honesty and senses are in doupts.

  12. Durian says:

    Credibility? Wiranto?

    During the 1998 riots, he RAN AWAY FROM JAKARTA and hid in Malang.

    He was military commander when atrocities were committed before Indonesia’s “Army” was defeated in Aceh

    He organized atrocities in East Timor after the referendum (ANOTHER defeat for his mercenary army)

    He set up Hanura just so he could become president (but with three other ex-generals, one of whom organized the 1998 riots) standing against him, the vote will probably be split.

    Does Indonesia need a war criminal as president? NO! It needs somebody who can turn this beautiful country around, not turn it back to the days of military dictatorship

  13. Durian says:

    PS According to the latest trendy jokey abbreviation in Jakarta, Wiranto is short for “peWIRa ANjing TOlol” – dumb dog officer! 🙂

  14. Aswen Dores says:

    I my self recently just resigned as a functionerist from DPD Partai Hanura Kepri because I did not see the mystically enligtened soul among the actor in the Partai Hanura, as it is mentioned in the name, especially for The chief of DPD Partai Hanura in Kepri Province. I believe this party just good enough for the name. At first I was admited that Hanura will become one of the best political party in carrying forward the people aspirations. But after knowing closer and closer and even after I have spent my one year and money to be one of actor in this party at last knowing this party just good for the name but not for the facts. To be frank I felt regreted very much in joining this party
    Even My claim for a view times to Mr. hakim who acts for the chief of the party about the outstanding of hotel payment for the party meeting can not be paid by him. To my poin of view I don’t think this party can be expected in the future.

    The greatest want of the world is the want of men:
    – men who will not be bought or sold;
    – men who in their inmost souls are true and honest;
    – men who do not fear to call sin by its right name;
    – men whose conscience is as true to duty as the needle to the pole;
    – men who will stand for the right though heavens fall.”
